Facebook at Work is this Service for You

From the pocbooks.com archives of January 2015. Facebook at Work is this Service for YOU?

Facebook is providing companies their own customized version of its social media tool. This article will not be presented as a pros and con commentary, but it will inform you in the second half of the article why this may viewed as an oxymoron [Terms or statements that seem contradictory] company policy by managers and CIOs. That is, if someone brings up using the Facebook at Work service.
How does it work?If you already have a Facebook account, then you know how to share information with family, friends, and use the messaging system? You will pretty much notice the same functionality with the exception of Facebook at Work’s purpose for businesses sole employees (co-workers) access and purported no ads and no tracking, i.e. privacy.
Did you say, “No advertisements showing up?”“This is being reported, Facebook at Work is ads free”
Are you sure the Facebook at Work service will not track and store the company’s internal communications for other reasons outside of my knowledge?“Well, again, this is being reported by Business Insider Australia that, yes, this is the case.
…Facebook at Work will not serve ads or track your data. It will remain a private, closed ecosystem only accessible to those inside a company.
As of the time of this writing, I was unable to find the official (SLA) Service level Agreement policy for the new Facebook at Work product.   Granted, I could have missed it, or because the product is still in the testing phase. This page will be updated as information becomes available.

There are selected companies trying out this new product across multiple platforms, including smartphones, as in android and others.
Is Facebook at Work an Oxymoron?
This is a question not everyone would have to ask? This question comes up for companies that are presently blocking Facebook and have policies prohibiting its personal usage on business property or during operation hours. In Round-Robin type settings, when people just brainstorm and throw out ideas, people (including managers) sometimes make suggestion that go against present company policy. They may feel it is in the interests of progress for the company or business. However, an alert signal will go off in the minds of people who know the company policy and the viable security reasons behind it; i.e. CIO’s. They may rebuttal “We are presently blocking Facebook on the Firewall level, how can we make this work?”
Additional questions may be asked:
• Will some forget at times to sign in/out of their personal and work profile?
• What makes this messaging system worth the change from our present system?
• Will this make us more efficient with productivity and security?
Again, it has to be emphasized, that such questions may only be applicable for ones who have strict policies against the use of Facebook in company environments, yet it comes up in a brainstorming session to change such a policy.
As always, the choice is left up to the decision makers for the company. This article is provided what is the latest news in the Information Technology culture, in which Facebook is playing an enterprising role.

Eli The Computer Guy vs Facebook

On July 1, 2014; Eli went through explaining his disgust with Facebook’s reported emotional experiments on its users. Discretion is advised due to the reason Eli was highly upset. Since this was the first I heard of it, and Eli is often what I would say “smart on” in the technology field for solutions, I wanted to hear about this before I looked it up myself.

On July 2, 2014 Eli provided instructions on

“How to Delete Your Facebook Account”

He also reiterated the reasons for deleting his highly profitable account at Facebook. On the same day, July 2, 2014; the following news report came out in London.

“British regulators are investigating revelations that Facebook treated hordes of its users like laboratory rats in an experiment probing into their emotions.”

The term VS means to be against something. Eli and other reports state reasons that will make the most trusting of people say, “I can’t agree with this.”

Now this Geek Brain Dump post is not to tell you what to do in this matter of keeping or deleting your Facebook account. It is to keep you informed of how positive Information Technology can be used and also the negative ways it can be implemented.

Now allow my final thoughts for this article to be on Eli. Even though he says that he does not get into morals or ethics, make no mistake about it, in his analyzing the Facebook experiments he is expressing principles being violated that pertains to “Golden rules” that even Franklyn Covey has talked about. Covey mentions in class curriculum on Ethics, to use full, accurate, and honest information in everything you communicate. There other principles from additional sources to consider like “Do unto others as you would have them do to you.” Would anyone want their powers of reason to be influenced in a negative way?

So, you have to decide for yourself at least 2 things:

  1. Has Facebook as a business crossed ethical lines for you?
  2. What is the cost to you for keeping or deleting the account?

The decision / choice is yours.

WHEN The Good Guys Act like the bad Guys

And the sincere stuck in the middle of the valley

The bad Guys act like the Good Guys.

All ascribing to this mess should be ashamed of themselves.

You don’t have to wait for a specific day to mete out justice.

When a child cries for milk, you feed the child.
You don’t say wait until payday which is days away.

You find someway to feed that child today.

Protecting people and property from harm is not an experiment. You don’t play with people lives like this. You can try and make it political all you want. Life isn’t what you are sneakily and coercely trying to make it. Especially with certain persons.

If someone treats you bad, just remember that there is something wrong with them, not you. Normal people don’t go around destroying others. – Quote

Gratitude for Twitter and Facebook Contacts

Hello Everyone, Twitter & Facebook Contacts, No one likes to be taken for granted wouldn’t you agree? And with that being said, know that I thank you for your support this past year. Whether you are one of my Twitter and Facebook contacts, and additional networks contacts; your interest is appreciated

Twitter and Facebook Thank you

At first, I thought I would send this through Twitter to each of you but it is a little more than a 140 characters. A great shout out has to go to the Twitter and Facebook users’ United Kingdom crew, and you know who you are! Your expressions give me a perspective on your friendships, family, and idioms of the land. It has been a pleasure.

The photographers

Through your eyes and camera lenses you continue to make the saying come alive that a picture is worth a thousand words. Whether it is natural ability or through training you have acquired such skill, it is evident that your heart is involved too. Thank you for sharing some of your works with me.

The writers, authors, and freelancers

What can I say, there is a kindred spirit running through people such as you. In paying attention to details, you have shared information through your stories and articles that are sometimes overlooked, or not viewed as important. They may even be considered little things. However, you realize the importance of little things to tell a story. The artistically inclined recognizes a masterpiece starts with a brush stroke and often requires well-placed touch ups for details. Thank you for the interest and advice.

The men and women of youthful power

Youth is a time for enjoyment and at the same time finding out what truly is important for you to be successful in life. I value your thoughts, feedback, and opinions too. And one thing I have come to appreciate about young people is your ability and sincerity. Your expressions show you are thinkers; no one will take that away from you. You may agree, at times, that physically your body still matures faster than your emotional maturity. Something your parents well know. You keep these things in mind because you will be an adult soon enough. Then you may express at times it is not all it is cracked up to be with the added responsibilities. (Little humor there) All the same, I’ve appreciated reading your feedback and reports. I’ve considered it a privilege.

In closing, from the bottom of my heart, I wish globally all the best Twitter and Facebook contacts in your goals and in what truly matters.
