THE EFFECT OF SYMPATHY Page 2
Since that day Tammy couldn’t go anywhere without her niece. To prove that she loved her and wanted to be there her whole life, Tammy took a piece of cardboard and with a permanent marker she traced her hand prints. These hand prints would come to show how fast and how much Selena had grown. Like other kids mark their height on a wall, Selena had her hands. Everyday she would run to the board and place her hands within the traces to see if she had grown any.
By the time Selena turned two years old, Tammy had found a male friend that she would spend her time with. They dated for almost fourteen months till the unforgettable day that she was proposed to. She came home and before saying a word she picked up Selena and spun her around to celebrate. They were engaged for a few months while they were planning the wedding. The whole family was helping.
On that faithful day, Tammy was standing hand in hand with her love, Deon. The most beautiful vows were said and when it was time to greet the audience, right away to celebrate, her first instinct was to run for Selena and hold her with tears running down her face.
Tammy moved out on her own with her husband. It was hard for her to leave the family and her wonderful niece, but she knew that it was time to move on and plan her life. After she moved, Selena didn’t see her for awhile where she used to see her every day of the week.
Rrrring! Rrrrring! Victoria, Selena’s mom’s phone rings. She sits down in a chair and stares off into the distance for a few minutes. The family sees her actions and asks her what happened? On the Phone, an agency had called with disturbing news…
